The mining and infrastructure sectors are playing a vital role in the transition to a more sustainable future. We are playing our part.
Our work in the resources, manufacturing and construction sectors means we inevitably produce carbon emissions. It’s a fact of doing business, particularly in the carbon-intensive mining industry. But, we are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, continually improving energy efficiency and reducing the energy intensity of our operations.
We have implemented a range of energy efficiency measures across our offices and facilities, including the rollout of LED lighting, motion sensor systems and broader energy-saving practices to minimise energy waste. Equipment performance is regularly reviewed to replace underperforming machinery with energy-efficient alternatives.
We will conduct energy efficiency audits at high-emission sites and where feasible, optimise workshop equipment to further enhance operational efficiency and energy savings.
We are also investigating the implementation of Building Management Systems (BMS) in our office buildings to enable enhanced energy control, real-time monitoring and proactive management of energy use. These initiatives contribute to reduced electricity consumption, improved productivity and lower emissions.
Strategic investments in renewable energy have been a core part of our carbon reduction plan. Feasibility assessments have been conducted across facilities to identify opportunities for renewable installations. As a result, solar panel systems have now been installed at all viable locations, providing clean, onsite energy generation. These installations reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-generated electricity and contribute directly to emission reductions.
Electric vehicles have been deployed across NRW as part of our strong commitment to low-emission transport. This initiative is supported
by the installation of EV charging infrastructure. We will continue to look for opportunities to expand its electric and hybrid vehicle fleet.
Alongside this, ongoing fleet optimisation programs aim to improve vehicle utilisation, driving further reductions in our transport-related carbon footprint.
Technology is rapidly changing and we will continue to explore and assess viable alternative energy options. This includes evaluating emerging technologies, innovative energy sources and process improvements that align with our long-term goal of reducing emissions and improving operational resilience.
We use a wide range of resources across our mining, resources, and infrastructure projects, from water and energy to raw materials, and are committed to managing them responsibly. This is just one part of our broader focus on environmental sustainability.
Guided by the principles of a circular economy, we strive to implement more efficient and environmentally friendly practices across all our business units.
