Now introducing Action Drill & Blast’s (ADB) Western Australian Indigenous Trainee Program at Karara!
In 2022, ADB had partnered with the Barada Barna First Nations community and Stanmore Resources at South Walker Creek, Queensland, to create the first of these programs, offering comprehensive training and employment pathways for local First Nations people. The aim was to create education and employment through a trainee pathway into the mining industry.
Following the program’s success in Queensland, the ADB team has been working closely with Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation Ltd and Central Regional TAFE to introduce a similar tailored program in our team at Karara, Western Australia.
The trainees start out with the basics in safety, training on a drill, and eventually, after the two-year program, gain their Cert III in Surface Extraction. The ADB team supports the trainees throughout the entire journey, helping them work towards real opportunities.
We caught up with our Learning & Development Advisor, Samantha, and Trainer & Assessor, Matthew, to learn more about the program and check in with our trainees, Lincoln and Rodney, to see how they’re going so far.
