Acquisition of Fredon Industries

In September 2025, we successfully completed the acquisition of Fredon Industries. This acquisition aligns with NRW’s strategy to grow through expanding the service offering, delivering new capabilities and entering new addressable markets.

2024

HSE Mining acquisition

In June 2024, NRW Holdings acquired HSE Mining assets and mining services contract at South Walker Creek, expanding our footprint and operational capability in Queensland.

2024

Major awards in WA and Queensland

We secured the mining services agreements – including drill and blast – for Stanmore’s South Water Creek Mine in Queensland ($1.6 billion) and Evolution Mining’s Castle Hill mine in WA. We also acquired HSE Mining, operating heavy mining equipment at South Walker Creek.

2023

OFI acquisition

In March 2023, we successfully completed the acquisition of OFI. This acquisition added market-leading electrical engineering, automation, instrumentation and design and construction capabilities to our portfolio, enabling us to enter new markets, such as the defence sector.

Northern Star Resources’ Fimiston plant

Primero was awarded a $973 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Northern Star Resources for its KCGM Growth Project in WA, including its Fimiston processing plant.

2022

Karara Iron Ore

We were awarded the contract ($702 million) to deliver a full suite of mining services, including drill and blast, for Karara Mining’s iron ore mine in WA – the largest mining operation in the Mid-West.

2021

Primero acquisition

We successfully completed the acquisition of Primero Group Limited in March 2021. This represents another significant milestone and delivers a significant development in the scale and diversity of our mining, resources and technology capabilities.

2020

Bunbury Outer Ring Road Project

We were awarded a contract for the Bunbury Outer Ring Road project, as part of the Southwest Connex Consortium (comprising Acciona, NRW Contracting, MACA Civil, AECOM and Aurecon) in October 2020.

2019

BGC Contracting acquisition

In 2019, we acquired BGC Contracting, including the Mining, Construction and DIAB Engineering businesses, further expanding our capabilities and building a stronger, more diverse multidisciplinary platform for our group.

2019

RCR Mining Technologies acquisition

We acquired RCR Mining Technologies and RCR Heat Treatment, expanding and complementing our group’s existing capabilities. Another key step towards our strategic objectives.

2018

Dalgaranga Gold Project

We were awarded a 72-month mining contract by Gascoyne Resources. The total value of the contract was over $300 million, with mining taking place at Gilbey’s Golden Wing and Sly Fox Open Pits.

2017

Golding acquisition

Furthering our strategy of expanding our operations on the east coast, the acquisition of one of Queensland’s largest civil construction, urban development and mining services contractors was a key milestone in the history and growth of our group.

2016

Hughes Drilling acquisition

In December, we acquired Hughes Drilling’s east coast operations, integrating the business quickly and successfully into our Action Drill & Blast division.

2016

Forrestfield-Airport Link Project

In a joint venture with Italian company Salini Impregilo, we were awarded the $1.2 billion design and construct contract for the Forrestfield-Airport Link. The contract work includes a 8.5-kilometre extension of the Public Transport Authority’s urban rail network, including 7.1-kilometre twin bored underground tunnels.

2015

Middlemount Coal Mine Project Extension

We secured a three-year extension valued at approximately $330 million at the Middlemount Coal Mine. The extension term maximised the cost benefit and efficient utilisation of the large fleet of equipment for both Middlemount Coal and our group.

2013

Roy Hill Rail and Mine Site Earthworks projects

In September 2013, we were awarded our most significant civil contract to date: a $620 million contract with Samsung C & T Corporation for earthworks on the rail formation between the Roy Hill Mine Site and Port Hedland. In addition, earlier in the year we were awarded a $67 million bulk earthworks contract at the Roy Hill Mine Site.

2010

RGP5 Rail South Duplication Project

2010 saw our relationship with BHP Billiton Iron Ore grow stronger with the completion of the RGP5 Rail South Duplication Project and the award of a variation to the works at the Chichester Rangers – both projects completed in a joint venture with Laing O’Rourke and John Holland. The approximate value of the works was $253 million.

Welcoming CEO Jules Pemberton

July 2010 saw the departure of our founding CEO, Jeff McGlinn. Jeff handed the corporate reins to his then COO, Jules Pemberton. Our chairman Ian Burston said Mr McGlinn was instrumental in establishing NRW in 1994 and played a major role in the company’s growth and development during the past 16 years.

Introducing Action Drill & Blast

We established Action Drill & Blast to provide specialist drill and blast services for our group and the broader market. The company operates as a subsidiary of NRW Holdings Limited.

2009

Cape Preston Bulk Earthworks and Breakwater Construction Project

We were awarded the Cape Preston Bulk Earthworks and Breakwater Construction package on the Sino Iron Project for CITIC Pacific, which included over 6.5 million cubic metres of rock and a 3.2-kilometre breakwater.

Western Turner Syncline Project

We led the way in providing sustainable business opportunities for Indigenous organisations with the award of the $200 million Rio Tinto mining contract at Western Turner Syncline in a joint venture with Indigenous landowner group Eastern Guruma Pty Ltd.

2007

AES Equipment Solutions acquisition

We acquired Action Mining Services (AMS), a provider of heavy equipment maintenance services as support for our civil and mining business and to act as a business operating in its own right. Action Mining Services underwent a re-brand in 2014 and is now referred to as AES Equipment Solutions.

Simandou Project

We crossed international waters for the first time in 2007, when Simfer SA (a subsidiary of Rio Tinto) awarded an earthworks contract at its Simandou project in the West African country of Guinea.

NRW listed on the Australian Stock Exchange

After 13 years of strong growth, we listed our group on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX: NWH).

2007

NRW contracted by Fortescue Metals Group

Our relationship with Fortescue Metals Group was established in 2007, after Cyclone George. We were contracted to undertake 106 kilometres of Greenfields rail formation as a part of Fortescue’s Mine to Port, construction of a 1,300-bed camp and improvements to existing damaged camps.

2005

Yandicoogina Junction South East (JSE) Expansion Project

We won our largest contract to date with a $92 million award for civil works on Rio Tinto’s Yandicoogina Junction South East (JSE) Expansion Project.

2002

BHP Iron Ore and Rio Tinto

Our relationships with BHP Iron Ore and Rio Tinto began in 2002. We completed the first of many rail sidings at BHP’s Mt Whaleback mine in Newman and were awarded a tailings dam contract in Paraburdoo by Rio Tinto.

1997

Opthalmia Contracting

We acquired Opthalmia Contracting to establish a presence in the Pilbara and began operating from Newman. Opthalmia held a three-year contract to service BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Mt Whaleback iron ore mine.

1994

The beginning

Our company was founded in Jandakot in 1994 and our name, NRW, was derived from an initial from each of the co–founders. Our first projects were in Jandakot and at the Granny Smith Mine.
