PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Yarwun project is located 15 km west of Gladstone and 450 km north of Brisbane in Queensland. Operated by Rio Tinto Alcan (RTA), the Yarwun processing plant treats bauxite to produce alumina. The RMA facility is used for the storage of byproducts. The civil construction works enables the process plant to continue the planned annual production by increasing the capacity for the residual waste.

CONTRACT SUMMARY
NRW have been appointed to construct the dam wall raise around the RMA facility embankment. This includes:

  • sub-soil drainage and sump installation
  • construction of haul roads
  • surface drainage
  • borrow pit development
