Since 2021, Primero has supported WA’s cancer research efforts by participating in the MACA Cancer 200 Ride for the Perkins. Their team, the ‘Primerodonnas’, joins a group of dedicated cyclists riding the 200km round trip from Perth to Mandurah, to raise money for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. Collectively, they have raised over $470,000 for the cause.
The Primero team begin preparations months in advance, training together to foster a sense of community and teamwork among the riders. They also work with partners and clients outside the organisation to amplify their fundraising efforts and strengthen relationships through shared commitments.
As Project Manager Gino Macchiusi explains, “many Primerodonnas have personal connections to the cause. They ride in solidarity with people currently battling cancer, to honour friends and family who are no longer with us, and to celebrate those who have survived and overcome their diagnosis. Others are motivated by funding research for kinder, less traumatic treatments, especially for children”.
Regardless of each individual rider’s motivations, their collective effort is an exponential force for good. The Primerodonnas are as much a source of pride for Primero as they are a source of positive change in the world.
