As a tribute to Western Australia’s rich agricultural history, DIAB has collaborated with the Vintage Tractor and Machinery Association of WA to immortalise an iconic locally made tractor on a record-breaking scale.
The replica 1949 Chamberlain 40K tractor was engineered to perfectly mirror the features and proportions of the original. Standing at 11.5 metres tall and 16 metres long, the 42-tonne steel sculpture is covered in 800 litres of signature Chamberlain orange paint.
The construction was completed in DIAB’s Geraldton workshop, with 58 highly skilled tradespeople dedicating 21,000 hours of labour to crafting, bolting, and MIG welding the structure together. The assembly required two cranes, with the rear tyres alone weighing 5.8 tonnes each and measuring almost 8 metres in diameter.
After initial construction, the structure was disassembled and transported 180km from Geraldton to Carnamah for its grand unveiling at the North Midlands Country Carnival. Thousands gathered to witness the historic event, coordinated by the North Midlands Agricultural Society and The Big Tractor Committee.
“Together, we pushed the boundaries of what we thought was possible,” says DIAB CEO Glen Payne, “The local community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s exciting to see the attention this project has attracted both nationally and internationally.”
The ‘world’s biggest tractor’ is a remarkable feat of engineering that will bring lasting benefits to the Carnamah community and demonstrates DIAB’s commitment to quality, precision, and excellence.
