PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Yandi Billiards South project involved the development of an existing green field site at the Rio Tinto Yandicoogina mine, located 110km North East of Newman.

CONTRACT SUMMARY

NRW undertook the early access civil earthworks and infrastructure works to develop the proposed Yandi Billiards South iron ore seam.

Scope of works included:

  • Clearing and topsoil strip of 153 hectares
  • Construction of 9.5 kilometres long earth levees
  • Construction of main diversion drains
  • Construction of 12.5 kilometres of LV by-pass tracks
  • Design and construction of temporary floodway crossings
  • Construction of a new 24 barrel culvert floodway
  • Dewatering of creeks
  • Construction of new HV and LV roads
  • Establishment and operation of a new rock quarry
  • Sorting and placement of 95,000 BCM of rock protection
  • Drill and blast works in quarry for rock production
  • Drill and blast works in main drains
  • HDPE installation

Peak manning on the project reached a workforce of 125 people
